PYP Foundations

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12. The PYP transdisciplinary framework focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both at school and beyond. HQIS develops students’ academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal value. The PYP nurtures independent learning skills, encouraging every student to take responsibility for their learning.

At HQIS, the core teaching methodology for math is the world-renowned Singapore Math, a highly effective teaching approach that instills deep understanding of mathematical concepts based on the C-P-A (Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract) method.

Students will be taught skills such as mental computationheuristic strategies, and modeling.  Through guided inquiry, students are encouraged to persevere in problem-solving, which in turn builds confidence and fosters interest in Mathematics.

At HQIS, children learn to write coding commands, debug and decrypt lines of code when they are 9 years old. Cultivating children's logical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and exercise their patience is the core objective of this course.

Some children used to like drawing, on paper or using their IPad. Their creativity has now moved from their worksheets to the screen of their laptop. They used to solve math problems using a calculator. Now we teach them how to program complex codes that automate calculations. Both classroom activities and homework are based on problem-based learning. Their learning speed is not important. After a period of systematic learning, students will be able to see their progress and results.

Inspired by Goog
le, we have launched Genius Hour in Primary School for personalized learning. We will update our schedule based on students’ interests each semester and it will be taught by our teachers.
